Bio: About Dr. Alyssa Berlin

Dr. Alyssa Berlin is a prenatal and postpartum clinical psychologist, childbirth educator and doula. Dr. Berlin works specifically with women and their partners on issues such as anxiousness and emotional fluctuation during pregnancy, postpartum blues and depression, and the complex issues that can arise between and around new and expectant parents.  

Dr. Berlin offers the internationally acclaimed Bringing Baby Home workshop.  Along with her husband, Dr. Elliot Berlin, Dr. Alyssa teaches a one day childbirth education crash course once a month.  Dr. Berlin is the creator of The AfterBirth Plan Workshop, a program that prepares couples for what to expect when the baby is born.  

Dr. Berlin is on the Board of Advisors for International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) and Pregnancy  Awareness Month.  Dr. Berlin is a contributing expert writer for TwigTale.  You can read Dr. Alyssa's blogs on the Huffington Post where she contributes to PBS's 'This Emotional Life" project.  Dr. Alyssa and her husband, prenatal chiropractor Dr. Elliot Berlin live in Los Angeles and are the proud parents of four amazing children.

Kimberly Johnson is a Certified Sexological Bodyworker and near-certified Somatic Experiencing practitioner.

She is also a single mom, doula, Rolfer and yoga teacher.

She leads workshops internationally and virtually on the intersection of women's sexuality and spirituality as well as holistic post-partum healing.

After living in Brazil for eight years, she now resides in San Diego, CA where she has a private practice, specializing in birth injury, birth trauma, and sexual healing.

Care Messer is a founder of the Cap Wellness Center as well as the owner/founder of the Birth Education Center and San Diego HypnoBirthing.

She became a doula under the instruction of Gerri Ryan through DONA, went on to become certified in HypnoBirthing and has taught HypnoBirthing since 2009. She is a Certified Hypnotherapist through NATH and is also a Certified Placenta Encapsulationist.

She trained with ICEA to become certified as an international educator and trained with Cappa to be a Postpartum Doula. Care has taught Natural Birth Training to student nurses at SDSU and holds a board position with The Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery, and until recently, she served as Vice President of the San Diego Birth Network.

Care is also the mother of two girls and two Pomeranians.

This is the first episode in a new series where we follow one of our Cap Wellness couples through their pregnancy. This will be a real and honest “slice of life” showing what first-time parents experience as they prepare for delivery, birth and becoming parents. We will follow Amanda & HR as they go to prenatal visits, take birth classes, plan baby showers and all of the other ups and downs with family, friends, work, etc. that are common to everyone as they go through during pregnancy. It is our hope that their story helps you as you go through your pregnancy as well when you realize that they are just like you.
