Guest: Laura Shanley is the author of Unassisted Childbirth and is widely recognized as one of the leading voices in the natural-birth movement. She also works with women on a one-on-one basis, providing childbirth counsel and emotional support before, during and after pregnancy.

In this episode, we will cover:

  1. How Laura came to realization that she could birth her own 3 children by herself, at home, without any medical supervision (**I misspoke in the recording of the episode that Laura had 3 unassisted births-it should have been 5)
  2. What books and resources she read to be certain that she could do this and that you could read to have a more natural, powerful birth
  3. Which 3 negative emotions she believes are the greatest contributor to rising c-section rates and medical interventions in birth

Guest: Carole Osborne is a San Diego-based massage therapist, author, course developer and instructor of somatic arts and sciences. Expecting a baby is usually joyful, but it is also stressful and can be uncomfortable. Prenatal massage therapy uses techniques designed specifically to address pregnancy’s challenges.

In this episode, we will cover:

  1. the long list of benefits that massage therapy can offer a woman during pregnancy-relaxation, better sleep, easier birth are a few).
  2. how a prenatal massage is different from a regular massage and what to expect (a side lying massage can be very comfortable and can teach you how to sleep better at night too).
  3. what contraindications for massage you should be aware of in pregnancy and how a trained prenatal massage therapist can work with them (varicose veins is only one of them).
